Seattle and Managerial Experience

I just returned from Seattle this week for some recruiting events with our EWMBA students and alumni. If you missed us, we’ll be back for an information session on November 15.

I met some really great prospective students at the QS World MBA Fair, Microsoft, and at the Seattle Information Session. A common question that came up was, “Do I need managerial experience in order to be admitted?”, and the answer is “Absolutely not!”.

At Berkeley-Haas, we are looking for very smart, very diverse, very passionate leaders — the kind of leaders who take intelligent risks, consider the long-term impact of their actions, and have a high value for lifelong learning. It is not necessary to be a manager or have a “manager” title, but in your application you should highlight where you have had leadership experience. Whether that is in leading projects/teams at work, in your extracurricular activities, during your undergraduate years, etc., it is important to highlight that information for us so we can see how you will be an even more effective leader with the Berkeley MBA.
